The story
A day of granite climbing in Valsesia, the valley descending from Monte Rosa into eastern Piedmont. Here the rock is gneiss and crystalline granite, shaped by glaciers and streams into slabs, cracks and overhangs that have attracted climbers since the 1970s. The environment is wild but accessible: dense beech woods, emerald pools, and sun-warmed rock shoulders. The session alternates mid-grade sport pitches with more classic lines, where technique matters more than raw strength. Walking back down at sunset, hands dusted with chalk and Monte Rosa glowing pink on the horizon, is one of the finest endings an alpine day can offer.
