The story

Alpinism in the Vallée de la Clarée, at Névache (Hautes-Alpes) — one of the last truly wild valleys of the French Alps: motor vehicles banned beyond a certain point, few huts, many modest but panoramic peaks between 2,800 and 3,300 m. The day unfolds along rocky ridges and mixed slopes, with a few exposed passages and a pure high-mountain atmosphere. From the ridge the Écrins massif rises to the south-west, and further away the Valtournenche appears. Névache is also a capital of late-season ski touring and cross-country skiing: a winter landscape that stays in view well into spring.
