A note on the use of artificial intelligence

This site is also made with the help of AI

This is a personal website, and I use artificial intelligence systems in several places: to write and translate text, for the site and app code, for the catalogue of travel ideas and for the place entries on the tourist maps. On this page I explain where and how, plainly and verifiably.

The photographs are mine, no AI

The photographs I publish — in travel diaries, mountain pages, the photography section — are always original shots by the author. I do not publish artificially generated images.

Text: diaries, proposals, catalogue and place entries

Travel diaries, mountain outing accounts and trip proposals are written with the help of artificial intelligence language models and reviewed by me. The catalogue-of-ideas entries and the tourist-map place entries mostly concern places I haven't visited yet: they are generated with the help of AI from public sources and reviewed by me on a sample basis, not line by line.

I do not list here, trip by trip, which texts went through AI assistance and which did not: editorial responsibility remains mine throughout, on every page of the site.

The site and app code too

The code of the site and of the TravelLab app is developed with the assistance of artificial intelligence systems, in particular Anthropic's Claude. This is a development tool, not something aimed at the public.

Which models I use

Depending on the function, the site and the TravelLab app rely on artificial intelligence models from several providers: Google (Gemini) for translation and, in the past, for enriching diaries in the app; Anthropic (Claude) for development assistance; OpenRouter, a service that provides access to models from several providers, for the place entries on the tourist maps. I keep an internal register with the function and provider for each use.

The diary-enrichment feature in the app

The feature that let a travel diary be enriched with AI directly from the app has been disabled since 21 September 2026, pending a dedicated in-app notice and further safeguards.

Italian/English translations

Translations between Italian and English for some content on this site are prepared with the help of artificial intelligence and then reviewed by me on a sample basis: if you're reading a page in the language I didn't write first, keep in mind it may have gone through automatic translation.

What may contain errors

Opening hours, prices, coordinates and access conditions for places not yet visited may contain errors, or may have changed since the entry was written: always check the official source, linked where available, before you go. The same applies to automatically calculated distances and travel times.

No automated decisions about you

Nothing on this site results from an automated decision producing legal effects or significantly affecting you. Artificial intelligence here is a writing and research tool, never a judge.

Legal references

This note is a matter of transparency, not necessarily a strict legal obligation. Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act) mainly requires labelling for content with a public impact — for instance text published to inform the public on matters of public interest, or audio/image/video that impersonates real people or events. In my judgement a personal website like this one does not fall into that case; even if it did, the regulation provides an exemption where the content has gone through human editorial review and responsibility is attributed to a natural or legal person (Art. 50.4): that is the approach I follow for the text I publish, within the sample-review limits stated above for the catalogue and the map entries. I publish this note anyway, because it feels right regardless of the obligation.

For copyright in text prepared with the help of AI, I also take into account Article 25 of Italian Law No. 132 of 23 September 2025, which recognises protection where the result is the product of the author's own intellectual work.
